The sub-project titled "Index and Retrieval of Rich Media" for which IBM is accountable comprises the automation and simple utilisation of standards for complex multimedia content. The extensive use of standards has so far been thwarted by the fact that they are complex therefore this sub-project is developing processes and tools which allow the automatic generation of standards conformance and metadata. The following key project results are being implemented:

• development of a process for the generation of metadata
• development of a tool for the simple and automatic use of standards for complex multimedia applications
• provision of good practice for the public sector and for SMEs
• provision of processes and tools to examine the up-to-dateness of learning content
• definition of operating models for providers of knowledge and learning content for SMEs and the public sector.

The provision of such tools is the basis for the reusability and widespread distribution of learning content – thus these tools can, in particular, also be used in the "Content Sharing" project.
