Mobile Learning

In the field of mobile computing and mobile network technologies, there are at present rapidly advancing developments in process. Ever more complex and efficient mobile terminal equipment with high-definition colour displays are providing the basis for new application capabilities and scenarios. The new technologies also provide new potential for the exchange and acquisition of knowledge. The vision of mobile learning - accessing learning content at any time, at any location and building knowledge - is realisable.

The sub-project titled "The Standardisation Potential of Mobile Learning (SML)" for which MMS is responsible, comprises, on the one hand, taking stock of standardisation-relevant activities in the field of mobile learning and, on the other hand, developing, testing and evaluating an overall concept for mobile learning. This involves deriving from this the potential for standardisation and introducing proposals to international panels accordingly. The focus here lies on providing services which offer an added value compared to previous services based on stationary terminal equipment.

In particular, the following results are the goal of these efforts:

  • preparation of reference scenarios of mobile learning
  • prototypical implementation and evaluation of selected application scenarios of mobile learning
  • development of an internet-based tool to support the sustainable integration of mobile learning into existing learning processes
  • advancement of e-Learning standards with special consideration of mobile learning
  • introduction of the results to, and active participation in, national and international standardisation committees (esp. DIN, ISO/IEC, CEN/ISSS)
