Quality in E-Learning

The sub-project titled "Quality Management and Quality Assurance", for which the University of Duisburg-Essen is accountable, deals with the quality of e-learning – a field that is currently being fervently discussed in the sciences and in the economy. The goal is the promotion of internationally recognised, open quality standards for e-learning aided further education. For this, existing approaches to quality are being integrated into a harmonised quality model and, with the help of internet-based tools, adapted for deployment in practical situations. The insights acquired through this work will then be transferred to the national and international standardisation panels.

In particular, the following results are the goal of these:

  • preparation of a quality management model for development and learning processes for the creation and utilisation of high-quality, commercial learning systems
  • development of reference criteria for e-learning in in-company further education
  • guidelines and other support for the use of quality standards
  • introduction of the results to, and active participation in, national and international standardisation panels (esp. DIN, ISO/IEC, CEN/ISSS)
  • development of an internet-based tool to support users in the application of quality standards and in the integration of such standards in existing educational and business processes (a documentation and decision supporting system)
